Earth Day

As we have been in this strange time together, I made the Hemisphere hat last month. Here in the U.S.A., we uphold the Latin phrase E pluribus unum to remind us that standing together makes us strong. We are many: cultures, colors, beliefs. We are one: nation, people.

Plant in memory, and that seed grows in the hope of a future.

Does it fit?

Last time, I spent the last month's worth of sewing time fitting the bra band of the Élan #645. The band seems to have been fit to someone who has a funnel shaped torso. Mine is more straight at that point, so I had to add more room to the bottom of the back band, and take away extra fabric from the top of said back band. The front of the pattern nearly fit me perfectly, only needed a sliver removed.

Last week, I began making fitting cups a la Orange. I tried first with stretchy fabric substituted for the lace, but that didn't work out at all. Instead, I simply used the cradle tulle that I've been using for the front parts of the bra.

I know the 36A cup will be too small for sure, so I tried the 36B cup. I'm not sure if it will work in the end, so I try the 36C to rule it out. But, whoa, the C seems okay along the top without stretch. I add a wedge into the bottom of the cup to extend the wire line to fit the D cradle.

The diagonal seam may need to have some roundedness removed just slightly -it's the slightest bit loose, "pointy"- just at my apex. This has been a long slog so far, and I'm not sure if that will be pulled into place in the final garment, so I plan to make an actual bra that may just fit.
