Apple Tree Cardigan

MissC really likes her new sweater. At least, she likes being put up on the toy box to get her picture taken!

img apple cardi
Basic Pattern: Cameron's Hooded Cardigan from A Good Yarn. The tree on the front is the Apple Tree chart (p. 102) from Charted Knitting Designs (3rd Treasury) by Barbara Walker.
The knitting for this sweater has been done for a couple months. I've never put a zipper in a knit before! It turned out a tiny bit wonky, but not bad for a first.

Zipped

I finished the back-zippered baby sweater yesterday. All the knitting has been completed for several months, the zipper was the part that took so long! It sat next to the sweater for a looong time while I ignored it completely until I was 'ready' to sew it in. Thank Sara for that aha moment a couple weeks ago! I basted it in in an hour -seriously, it took 15-20 minutes once I actually started with the thread, but I pinned it 3 times. I sewed in the first side over the next couple days and set it down again. Yesterday, I couldn't find MissC's jacket, so I grabbed the sweater and thread as I headed out the door. I finished sewing the zipper in during Bible study.

I took a phone pic, but am currently slightly inept at getting pics from the phone to the computer. I'll take time to figure that out later.

Last night, Ben was out. The night before I came across a grocery bag pattern that I decided to try. Basically, use a plastic bag as the pattern for the fabric version. The tutorial shows how to make a pocket to fold the bag into for storage. I used some floral fabric that I might otherwise not use, and used the lining fabric as the pocket. The bag seriously looked not quite right without the pocket, probably because I'm used to seeing the store info on the plastic bags!

Gotta run. TJ has his Yorktown Reenactment today.

Star Stitch

I had to look it up, I'm kinda visual.
The Star Stitch is really pretty, though.

Pink is Still SO Pink.

My dear friend, Susan, gave me some pink baby yarn a few years ago that had been her grandmother's. I would love to make Susan something special and pink for her baby(-ies) with it, but it's wool (thankfully, superwash). She hates finicky laundry. I'm still thinking of making her something for a girl, but I'm not sure how it would go over. And, there's only so much yarn! I'm sure I could get two or three baby sweaters out of it, but her youngest girl is now over a year old. I'll really have to dig through my books for a sweater of fingering weight for that size. Hahaha: I just walked over to the bookshelf and the first thing I pulled off was an old Workbasket magazine with a size 2 crochet sweater on the cover in baby pink 3-ply! It calls for 6 1 ounce skeins and these are 1 3/4 ounce skeins, so it should only take like 4!

My pastor and his wife are expecting number five. They have four boys and the scan shows this one as a girl. Can you imagine the excitement? I asked her what her color(s) are and she simply said, "Pink."

Looks like I'll have enough to make both, but I'd better get to it. I can only stand So. Much. Pink. for so long.

Coffee Sleeve

I found this cabled knit coffee cup sleeve pattern while wandering the net. Now I'm making one for Ben: have 2 repeats done already.

Notes thus far:
Pattern: Knit Coffee Sleeve, source: craftster.org, by MissKnittyPants
Yarn: Mexican Wave (100% Acrylic DK weight, so I may need some extra rows) from Aunt Gerry
Needles: 2 #5 Crystal Palace bamboo DPNs (just because they were the closest to size and hand)

Wrap-Style Sweater

I've been thinking on my idea and searching online for similar patterns to get a good idea for construction. So far this Cables and Chains Wrap Jacket is the closest I can find. Other similar ones aren't quite the style.
Today, I'm planning on getting a nap, and I'll work on and hope to finish sewing in the zipper on the back-zipped baby hooded sweater thing (then get Ben to take a photo on his i-phone again). Right now, I'm finishing a pattern repeat on MissA's Rainbow Socks, then it's naptime!

Sewing A Zipper Into A Handknit Sweater

On Sunday, my friend Mrs. A had a gorgeous new purple sweater on her baby. It's one of those hooded sweaters with the zipper down the back, and the person who made it added a pompon at the top to give the pointy zipper top more elf-appeal. She let me have a look inside to see how the zipper was sewn in and now that I've seen it, I know I can finish the sweater I made for MissC! It's been sitting waiting for months and all it needs is a zipper!

I'll get my camera fixed sooner or later. I've hand-basted it in and just have to sew it.

Now I've got a sweater begging me to be knit. I have no pattern and don't think I'll find one! I saw this and it reminded me and I've been crazy to do something about it today! I've sewn up a basic trial run (Ben really digs it) and need to figure out how to proceed. I'm so excited! I've been hemming and hawing with this basic idea for a few months and finally drew it on paper. It's got major kinks before I knit it, so I'll just leave you hanging. :)

Miss B Goes Platinum

After BB butchered her hair, I decided to knit her up a hat to keep her ears warm as the cooler weather comes. The inevitable came up and I knit the Hallowig. I adore it. Usually when I make something for BB, she wants Nothing to do with it (especially if I have to try it on her before I'm done with the work).

She adores it.(edited to add photo)

“I Look Pretty”

she said, "And baby look pretty, too."

"Yes, you look pretty," said I.

Then I saw the patches of scalp showing through the baby's hair. And, as I went down the hall I saw the clumps of curls lying about. "Oh dear," thought I, "I should not have spoken so soon."

Well, Cow's first haircut.. No camera working. Hardly enough hair to cut. She's not even a year yet!
