A weekend of gardening

Ben build me two garden boxes that fit our fenced area well. There was a kennel built by the original owners - and the landlord doesn't allow pets, so it's become the garden. It's much too shady for winter gardening, but with the termites having been sprayed for along the house, I can't use the sunny section. My better half is building a greenhouse frame, so I'll be able to hang lights if I see the need this winter.

I bought and transplanted seedlings of: broccoli, cabbage, celery, kale, lettuces, onions (Walla Walla), and sweet peas.

From seeds and bulb/starts, I also planted: beets (gourmet blend), carrots (carnival blend), garlic, leeks, onions (red & white), and shallots.

Its quite late for planting seeds. We're actually having a heatwave/Indian summer, but I'm sure it won't last long. So, they may come up & not last in the cool temps, or they may not come up if the weather chills. But, for one packet of each (3 packets of seeds: carrots, beets, leeks), that's a chance I'm willing to take. Will it be less than $10 wasted? Or will it be a worthwhile investment that we can all enjoy in the coming year?
